Crisis & Information Hotline

Northwest Human Services Crisis & Information Hotline has been serving the emergent needs of the Salem community since 1970. It is the original hotline created by the legendary Oregon Governor Tom McCall that has been incorporated into one of Northwest Human Services valuable programs.

The Crisis & Information Hotline is accredited by the American Association of Suicidology, as it focuses on suicide intervention to clients in crisis 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Staffed by professionals certified in critical incident stress management (a specialized service for victims of trauma,) the Crisis & Information Hotline provides various emergency services to underprivileged citizens in distress that include:

  • Assistance to pay for prescription medication
  • Single-day pass for city buses
  • Personal hygiene items, as available
  • Lunch packets once per month, as available
  • Emergency Food Boxes, provided every 6 months
  • Community Voicemail
  • Lobby phone available for Community Voicemail

In addition to free voice messaging, the Crisis & Information Hotline also has a toll-free number, a TTY line for the deaf and hard of hearing clients, a contract with the Language Line Interpreter Services, which allows us to communicate in more than 135 languages and dialects.

Clients of the Crisis & Information Hotline range in age between 6 and 90-years-old.

“Thank you so much for all the help you give to people in need in our community. I was talking to my disabled son today on the phone and I told him not to worry because I got the help he needed. Thanks to the Crisis & Information Hotline, we won't be left in the dark anymore: our lights will be turned back on tonight.”
